About Us

Our History

East London Community Recycling Partnership was founded in 2001 as a not-for-profit community organisation. Based in Hackney, London we have grown considerably over the years. We now have food waste processing sites in the London Borough of Waltham Forest, the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham, and the London Borough of Hackney. On top of this we have a large scale green waste composting site on the Hackney Marshes which deals with 100's of tonnes of waste each year.

Approved Organisation

We are fully ABPR compliant and were the first in the UK to be approved by the Environment Agency for the Bokashi/Rocket System which we developed for dealing with food waste including cooked meat & fish. Our system is also approved by DEFRA (SVS) within the terms of the ABPR.

We have positive release for our compost and use it to green the estates from whence it came. We also have a consultancy service and regularly run workshops and education classes on composting, recycling and the problems created by the Animal By-Products Regulation amongst others.

Our Achievements

We are one of the few organisations in the UK to be fully ABPR approved. This allows us to compost cooked meat and fish as well as vegetable waste.

We were the first in the UK to win 'positive release' for our compost.

We have won two national awards for our food waste scheme. Have a look at all of our awards.

Our Hackney Marshes green waste site is recognised by the Environment Agency as a 'best practice' site.

Partnerships

ELCRP work in partnership with a number of organisations. We are becoming well known for a number of projects including Food Waste Composting on the Nightingale Estate and a 600 tonne green (Parks) waste site on Hackney Marshes.

HELPER (Hackney East London Partnership Estates Recycling) is equally famous for having developed estates recycling techniques which can be found in Hackney, Tower Hamlets and other boroughs.

Volunteers

We are particularly proud of our links with the local tenants organisations on estates where we operate. These links have resulted in an astounding 86.4% initial take up of our Food Waste Composting Project on the Nightingale estate.
