Green Champs Waste No Time In Showing Results
Hackney Today – 8th August 2005
Recycling rates in Hackney are going up thanks to expanded facilities and a greater awareness of the role that people can play.
Teams of green champions from the East London Community Recycling Partnership are now knocking on doors across the borough explaining to residents just how easy it is to recycle.
Proving it is never too old to learn something new. 92 year old Silvia Olivern of Vain House, Gascoyne Estate, took up the offer to start recycling, when door knocker, Carlton Beckford popped by.
Leaflets from the Council are sent round before the door-knockers arrive. Of the people contacted so far, over 60 per cent said they wanted to recycle more of their waste.
